The Importance of Your Online Presence

Imagine for a moment, your customer’s daily routine. Picture your customer waking up, starting the day, going to work, taking calls, and generally running through their day. Did you get a mental picture?

Did it look anything like this:
Wake up then….

  • Check cell phone for messages and texts.
  • Check email, Facebook, personal blog, other social media sites.

Go to work then….

  • Check email, Facebook, Twitter, online news, google something

Get ready for lunch…

  • Check email, check Facebook, google something…

Do you see a trend here? I’m not trying to specifically draw attention to Facebook, but I know you recognize it’s influence and you probably log into Facebook yourself. Sidenote, Facebook has over 400 Million users and no passes Google on visits to the site!

Here’s a little graph that shows the influence of Facebook:

Facebook is great, but not the focus of this article. The point I want to illustrate is our general dependency to check our digital sources, hop online at various points of the day, and actively do things in search engines and social sites.

We, as customers, are online all day for a variety of reasons.

Knowing this is generally accurate for your customers, the next question is how this impacts you and your business. If you haven’t considered your online presence you are completely missing out on opportunities to connect with your customers in ways comfortable to them.

Your Online Presence consists of:

  • Your Website
  • Your “findability” via search engines both organic and ppc.
  • Your presence in social sites (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, and many more).
  • Your activity in blogs and forums and communities.
  • Your listings in relevant directories and associations.
  • Your Google Profile
  • Your efforts in Ning, Squidoo, Tumblr, Reddit, Stumble Upon,
  • And many more.

When you see the internet as your customer does, you realize they are in many online places regularly and if you are accessible and available in those places then you are that much closer to creating a new customer. The idea has always been “to go where your customers are” and this certainly applies here.

So when it comes to your Online Presence that means you are aware of the various watering holes online and you’re a part of the club. The same club as your customers.

Today’s savvy businesses are leveraging their online presence to attract customers and engage them by building relationships with them. These same businesses are using their website as the hub of their marketing efforts and increasing their opportunities to connect and cross the “know, like, trust” threshold.

Today is the day to start working on your online presence. Your customers are waiting for you to show up.

Don’t hesitate to contact us, we’d be happy to help you create an irresistible online presence.
